Unani Medical course in South Sikkim is also known by the name "Unani-tibb course". Unani Medical course is a form of traditional medicine, which follows the teachings of Greek physician Hippocrates, and Roman physician Galen. Based on the concept of four humours Phlegm (Balgham), Blood (Dam), Yellow bile and Black bile (Sauda), Unani Medical reached India during 12-13 century. Hakim Ajmal Khan, Hakim Abdul Hameed, Hakim Mohammed Said and Hakim Syed Zillur Rahman were some of the eminent personalities who worked for the promotion of Unani Medical in Indian subcontinent. It is practiced in India and Indian subcontinent.
The main objective of Central Council of Indian Medicine is to produce competent Unani Physicians who can handle all sorts of cases medical as well as surgical based on their extensive knowledge about the fundamental theories and the basic principles of the Unani Systems of Medicine with modern advances where necessary to make Unani graduates competent to serve in the medical and health services of the country.
